Kitchen Renovation in Grade II Listed Property Between Sudbury and Colchester

Kitchen Renovation in Grade II Listed Home Between Sudbury and Colchester

This kitchen renovation formed part of a wider project at a Grade II listed home in a village between Sudbury and Colchester. With all work undertaken in close consultation with local authorities, this phase focused on modernising the kitchen while preserving and enhancing the building’s period character.

A complete reconfiguration of the internal layout was required to accommodate the new kitchen design. To achieve this, we relocated services and carried out structural adjustments in line with approved building control guidance. At every step, we ensured that the integrity of the historic property was respected, with materials and finishes carefully selected to complement the original features.

This was part of a wider project that included the renovation of a lounge, which we also showcase here.

The kitchen was supplied and fitted using furniture from the Second Nature / PWS range in a bold dark grey finish, chosen to contrast beautifully with the pale floor and window features. Worktops were fabricated in durable granite, offering a clean, modern surface without compromising the heritage aesthetic.

While the cabinetry offers timeless simplicity, the space is brought to life with the use of strong accent colours. Most notably, a fuchsia-coloured glass splashback was installed around the hob area, framed within a recessed cooker niche for both visual impact and practicality. A matching colour continues in the lower wall panelling, adding warmth and personality throughout.

A standout detail in the new layout is the bespoke granite-topped book bench, built into a wide window recess. Flanked by custom shelving and lit by natural light, the unit creates a striking focal point while offering practical storage and display. Each detail was made to measure, designed to fit the alcove exactly, with integrated lighting and cable management where required.

To ensure comfort underfoot, the floor was finished with porcelain tiles, beneath which sits a Warmup underfloor heating system. This was carefully installed without disrupting the fabric of the listed building. Sliding sash windows in the room were also fully refurbished, restoring their original timber structure and improving draught resistance.

The finished kitchen is a vibrant, welcoming and efficient space that balances modern performance with the character of its setting. From heritage-sensitive planning to the last finishing touches, TCI Suffolk provided a full-service kitchen renovation, backed by years of experience working in listed and period properties.
